Ship approved Nigerian food items abroad

Send approved Nigerian food items with Tianah. Check ingredients, destination rules, packaging and cargo acceptance before shipping to Canada, the UK or USA.

Tianah Global Logistics offers shipping for approved Nigerian dried goods, spices and shelf-stable products to diaspora communities in Canada, the UK and the USA. Start with a product check before buying or packing. Acceptance depends on the exact ingredients, preparation, destination and transport service; a familiar food name is not enough to confirm eligibility.

A useful food enquiry starts with detail

Instead of sending 'one box of food', list each product separately. Include the common name, brand where relevant, ingredient list, quantity and packaging. Say whether it is commercially packed or prepared at home and whether it needs refrigeration. Clear photos of labels can help resolve uncertainty before you spend money on goods that may not be accepted.

This is especially useful for mixed products. A seasoning, snack or drink may contain ingredients that are not obvious from its name. Dried, powdered or sealed does not mean unrestricted. Give the team the actual product details so the advice relates to your shipment rather than a broad category.

Check the destination and transport option

Tianah publishes different route acceptance lists. The existing Canada air list includes non-accepted items such as kilishi, ponmo, locust beans, meat, dairy, fresh fruit and certain named seasonings or noodles. Its Canada sea list includes other exclusions, including perishables and specified animal products. These are Tianah service-policy statements; they should not be read as a complete account of Canadian law.

The UK sea list also excludes several categories and named foods. Do not infer that a product omitted from a list is accepted, or that using air instead of sea resolves the issue. Ask about the exact product and chosen service. Current company/carrier acceptance and legal import eligibility both need to be satisfied.

Canada: check the product, not the nickname

For products regulated by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, the AIRS reference system uses commodity, origin, destination and end use to help identify requirements. This is a useful starting point for a specific product check, not a blanket permission for a carton of mixed food.

Describe whether the food is for personal use or sale. If you are supplying a business, identify the receiving business and discuss the commercial requirements before dispatch. The fact that a relative previously received a similar package is not a substitute for checking your own product and current service acceptance.

UK and USA: use the right type of guidance

For the UK, distinguish Great Britain from Northern Ireland and explain whether the shipment is personal or commercial. Traveller guidance should not automatically be applied to a separately shipped commercial carton. The UK import process provides a starting point for business imports and directs users to different processes for other situations.

For the USA, food imports can involve FDA and agricultural checks. The FDA prior-notice page explains the notification requirement and links to specific gift guidance. Do not assume that calling a package a gift makes all requirements disappear. Ask for the check that fits your actual shipment.

Packing after acceptance

Once the contents are accepted, follow the agreed packing instructions. Keep products identifiable and labels readable. Prevent accepted liquids or powders from leaking into other items. Separate products that could contaminate or damage one another, and keep the final inventory consistent with the contents.

Avoid repacking different foods into unlabelled containers simply to save space. If a product is repacked, disclose that and ask what information should accompany it. Vacuum packing can be useful for some products, but it does not change the product's ingredients or import status. Good packaging supports handling; it is not a regulatory exemption.

Personal packages and business orders

A family food package and a shipment for resale may require different preparation. Tell the team which situation applies. For personal packages, make sure the recipient understands what is being sent and can respond to questions. For business orders, agree responsibility for product information, invoices and destination-side arrangements before purchasing stock.

Tianah also offers procurement and business logistics. If you need sourcing as well as transport, explain the product specification and quantity at the start. Ask which sourcing, verification, packing and transport tasks are included. Do not assume a shipping quote includes purchasing goods or certifying them for sale abroad.

Costs, timing and delivery

Food-shipping quotes depend on the packed consignment and the service it needs. Provide weight and dimensions, the origin and destination, and any special handling requirement. Ask whether the quote includes packing or final delivery and how any separately payable charges will be handled.

For timing, ask for a current estimate for the accepted products and chosen route. Do not use a general freight estimate to judge the shelf life of a sensitive food. Products requiring chilled or frozen handling should be assessed through the frozen-cargo service before you commit to dispatch.

Before you bring the food

Confirm the final accepted list, packaging, handover location and recipient details. Keep a copy of the product list and quote. If you substitute a brand or add an ingredient-containing product, ask again; the change may be material even if the carton weighs the same.

The easiest enquiry to assess is a specific one: named products, ingredient photos, quantities, packed sizes, destination and intended use. That gives Tianah a clear basis to explain what can be considered and what should be left out.

Use a simple food-check record

For each product, keep the submitted label, quantity, destination and the service discussed. Record any item excluded from the final package so another person packing the box does not add it back. If a relative or supplier prepares the goods, share the accepted list with them and ask them to report substitutions before sealing.

This is especially helpful where one person buys the food and another handles shipping. A verbal description can be misunderstood: the purchased brand may differ, or a mixed seasoning may contain an ingredient that was not discussed. Keeping the product information together reduces that uncertainty without pretending to replace an official requirement.

Consider the recipient's purpose

If the recipient plans to sell the goods, say so at the beginning. A business order should be assessed as a business order even when the buyer is a relative. Ask who will manage the destination-side product and document checks and whether the proposed timing suits the receiving business.

For a personal package, keep the recipient informed of the contents and delivery arrangement. Do not surprise them with an unfamiliar food or an unresolved question at arrival. The final plan should make sense to the person receiving the goods as well as to the sender purchasing them.

Questions about this service

Can I send any dried Nigerian food?

No. Dried foods still need a product and destination check. Ingredients, processing and Tianah’s route acceptance policy all matter.

Does sealed packaging guarantee customs clearance?

No. It can help protect and identify the contents but does not establish legal import eligibility or guarantee release.

Can Tianah buy the food for me?

Procurement and sourcing is a published service. Ask for a separate scope covering the products, purchasing, verification, consolidation and transport.

Can I include frozen items in a normal food box?

Discuss frozen items separately before packing. They require acceptance and a suitable handling plan, not just inclusion in a standard carton.
