Customs and shipping guidance before you dispatch

Prepare shipment information with Tianah’s customs guidance. Check destination requirements, cargo acceptance and documentation before booking.

Tianah Global Logistics helps customers understand country-specific shipping requirements, restricted items and document preparation. Use this support before buying, packing or dispatching cargo. The right advice depends on the exact product, destination, transport arrangement and purpose of the shipment. Guidance does not guarantee approval or replace the decision of a customs authority.

Separate three different questions

First, can the goods legally enter the destination under the relevant conditions? Second, does the selected carrier or service accept them? Third, are the contents and documents prepared correctly for that shipment? These questions overlap, but they are not interchangeable.

An item can be outside a service's acceptance policy even where some legal import route exists. Conversely, a product being physically easy to transport does not prove that it can be imported. Ask which issue applies when an item needs further checking.

Give a precise description

Start with the product name, quantity, value, origin and intended use. Explain whether it is personal or commercial. For food, provide ingredients and processing details. For electronics, identify the device and any battery. For mixed cargo, list each category separately.

Avoid general descriptions such as 'foodstuff', 'gifts' or 'miscellaneous goods' where more detail is available. Those labels can hide differences that matter to the assessment. Keep the same description in your enquiry and final shipment record.

Understand Tianah's published restrictions

The shipping-guidelines page includes Canada and UK route lists as well as a general USA list. Some entries reflect service acceptance rather than a complete statement of national law. Use the lists as a reason to check your goods, not as proof that every unlisted product is accepted.

Tianah has not published a verified item list for the USA, so our guidance points you to official sources instead of broad legal shortcuts. Do not rely on an old list for sensitive goods such as medicines, weapons, food or agricultural products.

Use the correct official source

Canadian food and agricultural enquiries can begin with the CFIA AIRS reference. UK commercial enquiries can begin with the UK import process. USA food enquiries should consider the FDA import information and relevant agricultural requirements.

The appropriate source must match the shipment. Rules for a traveller carrying personal food should not automatically be applied to commercial cargo sent separately. The country of dispatch may also differ from the product's origin, so provide both where relevant.

Prepare the records that apply

A clear inventory, values, sender and recipient details and package information are a useful starting point. Additional records depend on the transaction and goods. For formal Nigerian exports, the NEPC documentation guide describes the main document categories used at different stages.

Ask which documents you must obtain, who issues them and when they are needed. Tianah's document-preparation support should not be interpreted as authority to issue every regulatory certificate. Identify the responsible party before dispatch so the shipment does not depend on an assumption.

Keep values and purpose accurate

Describe a sale as a sale and a personal shipment according to its actual circumstances. Keep supporting value information where available. Do not change descriptions or values simply to seek a preferred customs treatment.

If the contents or recipient change, inform the team. A small substitution can alter the product assessment, particularly where ingredients or regulated components differ. The final records should describe what is actually inside the consignment.

Plan for questions at arrival

Make sure the recipient knows what is being shipped and can respond to requests. Keep the relevant records available. For a business, assign a person to handle import questions and another receiving contact if necessary; do not assume the person at the delivery address can answer every documentation query.

An inspection or request for information may affect timing. Ask how Tianah will communicate an issue and what information you should retain. Preparation can reduce avoidable confusion, but it does not eliminate every external delay.

What this service does not promise

This page does not claim Tianah is a licensed customs broker in every country, that all goods can be cleared or that duties are included in every quote. Those are separate factual and contractual questions. Ask for the exact service scope and payment responsibilities in writing.

The purpose of guidance is to help you understand the next steps for your actual shipment. Start early, provide accurate details and use current sources. That creates a clearer basis for deciding whether and how the goods should move.

Keep a source and decision record

When a product needs a specific check, retain the product details, the source consulted and the date of the discussion. If the product changes, the earlier answer may no longer describe the shipment. This record helps you ask a precise follow-up question rather than repeating a vague category enquiry.

Distinguish advice about a legal requirement from a statement about Tianah's chosen service. If the team says an item is not accepted, ask whether another assessment is possible or whether it should be removed. Do not interpret that answer as permission to conceal the item in a different package.

Check advice against the actual shipment context

An online article may describe commercial imports, traveller baggage or goods sent by post. Those contexts should not be mixed without checking. Identify which one applies to your consignment and follow the relevant official information. A familiar food or product name alone is not enough to establish that two situations are equivalent.

If a requirement remains unclear, resolve it before buying or dispatching the goods. For a business order, identify who can obtain the necessary clarification and who can approve a change to the shipment. Clear responsibilities make the guidance useful in practice rather than leaving an unresolved question until arrival.

Questions about this service

Can Tianah guarantee customs clearance?

No provider should promise an authority’s decision. Tianah offers guidance and preparation support; release depends on the shipment and applicable requirements.

Are Tianah restrictions the same as import law?

Not always. Company or carrier acceptance can be more restrictive. Ask whether the issue concerns law, service policy or preparation.

Who obtains a required certificate?

Confirm this for each document. Some records must be issued by the relevant authority or another responsible party; do not assume the logistics provider issues all of them.

Does a gift description remove the rules?

No blanket exemption should be assumed. Describe the shipment honestly and check the process for its destination and transport method.
